The blue morpho has been made famous by the movie "Papillon". Historically, the scales from this butterfly have been incorporated into paper money in order to prevent counterfeiting. A prison on Devil's Island, off the coast of French Guyana, famously utilized this technique and had prisoners collecting Morpho butterflies for this purpose in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
