Please note: This listing is for one earring (as opposed to a pair). Multiples are shown to demonstrate variations. Two earrings purchased from this listing will probably not make a nicely matched pair. If you are looking for a pair, please check out the Classic Pearls Shop Section or send me a note. This is a variation on the single hoop earring, with either a white or a black/peacock cultured freshwater pearl drop. Most (depends on the pearl's shape) are accented with tiny gold plated brass bead caps at the top, and are on gold plated brass findings and gold plated brass round leverback earwires (20 gauge earwire). These are perfect for the late Renaissance, Elizabethan, or Baroque gentleman and provide a good alternative for the pirate who is tired of a plain hoop. The "Big" pearls are 9.5-11.5 mm long. The "XL" pearls are 12mm-14mm long. The new "XXL" pearls are 14mm-16mm long. Most pearls are in the C- to D grade range, full of character and surface flaws, with shapes ranging from long teardrop to egg shaped/ ovoid. A few are shaped like pears or gourds. Some are smoother, some are ripply, woobly, and baroque. The white pearls are a creamy white to off-white. The black/peacock range from grey to black, often with some green, blue, or purple iridescence. If you have a preference, send me a note, and I will try to find you *your* pearl (subject to availability). :) Note on the current crop of pearls: The black pearls are of a fairly nice grade (~C to C-) - a few ripples or lines, but generally pretty even and with excellent teardrop shapes. The current batch of white pearls have some ridges orother surface flaws and tend to be more oval shaped than the black pearls. Every batch I receive is different, so stay tuned if you're looking for other characteristics, or reach out- I may still have some strays around from previous strands. Reference Images: Charles IX of France, dated 16th century (he reigned 1560-1574), and King Christian IV by Pieter Isaacsz, dated 1614. If you would like clip on/ non-pierced earrings, please send me a note- 13mm and 15mm spring non-pierced hoops are usually available. I can also switch out the leverbacks for stainless steel hooks, for those with sensitive ears. The smaller version can be found over here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/473409104/single-earring-cultured-freshwater-pearl . More variations can be found in the Single Earrings shop section.
