It is an antique locket with a beautiful engraved design on one side and a pretty light floral design on the other. It opens and closely nice and securely and inside there are deep red velvet inserts which can easily be removed. The outside of the locket has a jet black shiny finish which I believe to be Whitby Jet. This was a desirable material during the Victorian era and often used in mourning jewellery pieces. It is suspended on a piece of grosgrain ribbon but would look good on anything.
